Kalamazoo's First Dog Park!
Fairmont Dog Park
In 2004 a collaboration called "Friends of Kalamazoo Dog Parks" was founded with one primary mission:
to plan and build a dog friendly off leash area for dogs and their owners. Through the past 2 years, the
committee has made forward progress toward our primary goal; a beautiful, quiet, inviting people
and pet friendly park. Through a collaboration of Fairmont Neighborhood, The City of Kalamazoo, MRC
Industries, and The Kalamazoo Humane Society, and volunteer citizens we are working to achieve our primary goal. The City of
Kalamazoo identified the future location of our Dog Park, Fairmount Park on Prairie Street in the
Fairmont Neighborhood. Our beautiful Master Plan includes a fenced area for dogs off leash, benches
and picnic tables for humans, a dog watering hole, and a "stoop and scoop" protocol. This park promises to
be an asset to the pet owners, as well as a beautiful park for the residents in the neighborhood!
Funding / Planning
We are currently in the fundraising stage! The City has committed some of the funds necessaary to start building the park.
We are still in need of $60-$80,000 to complete phase 1. We are looking for major corporations that would like to fund us, we would then allow them naming rights.
If you would like to sponsor the park at a lesser amount, we are looking for people interested in purchasing park benches, poop stations, water stations,
and more! In return for your sponsorship we will dedicate your donation with a plaque in your honor or designation! These items range from several hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars.

How can you help?
There are several ways you can contribute to the success of our Dog Park. You could help by serving on "The Friends of Kalamazoo Dog Parks" committee, volunteering at our fund raising events,
working with the Neighborhood Association to promote the Dog Park idea, sponsoring a park item, etc. There are numerous ways you can contribute to our cause. Please email the address above to work out the details regarding

We are going to have a booth at the Kalamazoo Humane Society's Dog Walk-a-thon on May 3rd, 2008 at Prairie View Park. Please come with your four legged friends and join the estimated 3,000 others that
